Berita Sedih Buat Rakyat Malaysia, Tarif Elektrik Akan Naik Lagi.

A cut in the power tariff rebate for peninsular Malaysia will see consumers paying 0.73 sen more per kilowatt hour (kWh) for the first six months of next year.

The rebate for Sabah and Labuan, however, will remain the same at 1.20 sen/kWh, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili (pic, left) said in Putrajaya today.

Ongkili said the rebate in the peninsula would be reduced from 2.25 sen/kWh to 1.52 sen/kWh.

Base electricity tariffs overall will remain the same as the current period, at an average of 38.53 sen/kWh for the peninsula and 33.32 sen/kWh for Sabah and Labuan.

Ongkili also announced cost savings of RM762.03 million from July to December 2015 Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT), which calculates changes in fuel and power generation costs.

"The saving is obtained from the reduction in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market price as well as the increase in efficiency of gas and coal plants," he told a press conference.

For Sabah and Labuan, the tariff reduction can be maintained because of the fall in global crude oil prices, he added. – December 8, 2015.
